Choices are sometimes good, other times just makes life more complicated
I have Canadian relatives and I have found Canadians to be friendly when I visit

Hello John,
Did you want to talk further? I can tell you about Hemel Hempstead (where the cook/detective seroes "Pie in the Sky" was filmed). I also read and watch detective fiction. Over time I have enjoyed Sarah Paretsky, Ian Rankin, C.J.Sansom (great historical detective stories), Stephen Booth (writes about the Peak District close to where I lived in my youth), Raymond Chandler, Stieg Larsson, and many others. This is not quite your list I can see - I got tired of Agatha Christie's books long ago (after reading a good number) but maybe there is some common ground? However I don't do social media in general (I joined this site to try to improve my Italian) and I am uncomfortable posting on public walls. I can't work out how to post a private message, so I shall say no more.

Linda

Throstle is a Northern British dialect word for, I think, our song thrush. The name was supposed to reflect my geographical origin, an interest in language and an interest in birds. Also, it was the first word that came to a blank mind, when I had to think of a name.

Thanks for your reply. Runcorn is 15 miles south of Liverpool and 9 miles north of Chester. My father's family lived in the village of Halton, which is now part of Runcorn, for centuries. My grandfather was gamekeeper to the local Lord, Lord Brookes, and my great aunt was housekeeper. When I hear of people being attacked by sharks, and the shark being killed, I always say to my son that water is the sharks world and if people insist on encroaching on it then they must take the risk of attack.

Yes I saw the movie and agree with you completely, I too was disappointed with the movie. That happens with a lot of movies taken from books - I was disappointed with the Jaws movie after reading the book.
