Yo conozco a unos músicos que vienen de Rusia y han trabajado en el Bolshoi, también tengo amigos en el conservatorio en México y aprecio mucho lo que aún es música clásica. You'll have a lot of fun with the sonata. It's a lovely duet between cello and piano even though , honestly, the piano works MUCH harder than the cello in this sonata.
One of my goals for next semester once I have finished the first movement of Haydn's concerto in C is the Prokofiev cello sonata. It's VERY challenging but, I love the story behind it. Prokofiev is famous for putting the musician in his shoes as he tells his stories. The cello truly does speak for Prokofiev in this sonata .

I ADORE Rachmaninoff !
I saw David Finckel and Wu Han perform the Rachmaninoff cello sonata and the second movement drove me to tears. I'd love to play it but, a guy in my studio is studying it currently and I'm doing an all Baroque spring semester ( Breval Concerto , Sammartini Sonata, and Haydn Concerto in C) with the exception of Max Bruch's Kol Nidrei.
I also really love Rachmaninoff's prelude Op.3 No.2 and the 1st and 2nd movement of the 2nd Piano Concerto. I just love the Russian composers in general because despite the turmoil that occurred in their country during the time most of them were composing , they are able to appreciate memories of Russia from a better time . Rachmaninoff is honestly the best at conveying nostalgia. Who is your favorite composer in terms of repertoire that you're playing ? What's your favorite piano piece?
